HSC Maths error log guide
Maths improvement is often hidden inside repeated error patterns. A good error log turns each mistake into a rule.
Classify the error
| Error type | What it means | Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Concept | You did not know what method applied. | Relearn the concept and do three low-pressure examples. |
| Method selection | You knew the content but chose the wrong pathway. | Write trigger conditions: “When I see ___, consider ___.” |
| Algebra/slip | The approach was right but execution failed. | Slow down at the exact step where errors occur. |
| Exam pressure | You can do it untimed but fail under time. | Timed micro-drills, not more notes. |
The five-line error log
- Question type.
- Wrong step.
- Correct step.
- Trigger for next time.
- Reattempt date.
Over time, the log becomes your most valuable revision document because it contains your exact weaknesses.
