How to write Band 6 HSC responses
Band 6 answers are not magic. They are clear, relevant, evidenced and controlled.
Band 6 is usually about control
High-performing answers are controlled: they answer the question, use evidence precisely, manage time and show judgement where required. They are not simply longer.
Band 6 checklist
- I answered the exact verb.
- I used subject-specific language correctly.
- I gave evidence, working, examples or cases.
- I linked each paragraph or step back to the question.
- I made a judgement where the question required one.
What to practise
Practise the same skill repeatedly: thesis writing, graph interpretation, short-answer explanation, calculation working, source evaluation or business judgement. Skill repetition beats random paper completion.
